Spectrum Makeup Brush Review

Hi Everyone!

So at the end of last year I decided that I was going to purchase some new make up brushes as I had had the same set for 2 years! I did a lot of research and thanks to a fellow blogger, I came across Spectrum Brushes. They won me over straight away by their selection of brush sets, they are stunning! And after reading lots of positive reviews online, I decided to invest.

The brushes themselves are gorgeous, I got the Siren collection as they were their newest style and they looked so pretty! I was a bit of a loser and wanted to wait until the new year to use them (if you’re anything like me, you know how hard it is to use a new makeup brush!!) so after being really patient, I have been using them since January 1st and all I can say are good things!

The brushes are so soft, they feel lovely on the skin and the huge variation in styles and shapes means there is literally a brush for everything! I couldn’t recommend them more.

What brand of makeup brushes do you love the most?

Winter White

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

I’ve recently seen both Jessica Alba and Gigi Hadid rocking white outfits, so I thought I’d have a go myself and interpret it in my own style.

I have to say it’s quite scary wearing all white but it also seemed quite classic too. I wanted to give my outfit a casual feel by teaming white jeggings with a big cosy jumper and some pumps. Although you can’t see it much because of my hair, I also layered a white shirt underneath the jumper for a bit of contrast. All of the clothes in this outfit are from last year, but I think it’s a really easy look for you to achieve with any white pieces in your wardrobe as it’s fun to mix them up in different ways!

I also just had to include my new pink fluffy scarf from Boohoo too as it’s so nice! I know I’m kinda cheating on the ‘winter white’ theme, but it’s amazing so we’ll call it artistic license 😉

Would you wear white head to toe?

Next Makeup Review and First Impressions

Hi Everyone!

I’ve recently discovered Next’s new makeup range in store and I really wanted to try it! The overall look and packaging is lovely and there is a huge range of different products; I have only tried a small section of them here!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First of all I started with the Next Make Me Beautiful Face Illuminator; I used this after I had applied my usual moisturiser and it did exactly what it says on the tin! It’s illuminating without being glittery and gave my skin a gorgeous glow. I have dry skin so this really helped to brighten it but if you suffer with oily skin then this might be too much.

For my eyes I used the Next Make Me Beautiful Eyeshadow Palette, they have quite a few different choices but when I swatched this one in the shop I fell in love with these colours! The palette was £7.50 which is quite expensive for 4 eyeshadows in a high street store, but you get a lot of product for your money and I can see it lasting me for a long time! The eyeshadows themselves are very pigmented, they are quite shimmery and there are no matte shades in the palette. The eyeshadows blended easily and can be subtle or built up for a stronger look.

Finally I used the Next Make Me Beautiful Lip Chubby in Pure Nude. I purchased the 5 colours in a set and because of this they are the mini versions of their usual Chubby Sticks. It was only £10 which I think is amazing value and you get to try more of the colours than just purchasing one of the bigger ones individually! The formula can be quite soft and you do have to be careful when you apply that you don’t use too much, but they’re super strong in colour with a glossy finish which is really flattering. They don’t last for a long time as a matte might do but I didn’t use lipliner underneath so you could see the true colour and if you did, I’m sure they would last much longer.

I definitely want to try more of the Next Make Me Beautiful range, especially the eyeshadow palettes and the bronzer which looks like it could be an amazing dupe for the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick! Have you ever tried Next’s makeup range before? What did you think?

The Statement Jacket

Jacket – Topshop

Hi Everyone!

When you want to make a statement with your outfit, then what better way than with a jacket. This monochrome biker jacket from Topshop is so perfect for this! It’s made with wool, so it’s really cosy and warm whilst still looking edgy. It was a good length for me sitting down and you can still see the detailing really clearly which is what I want in a jacket.

Obviously it’s pretty daring! But I think paired with a simple outfit like mine, it would work for anyone. Topshop also have a matching skirt too, so if you wanted to, you could really tap into the 90’s trend and go for the whole look.

Would you stay more simple like I have with just the jacket? Or would you be more daring and match it with the skirt too?!

Shoes – Zara
Rings – Primark
Necklace – Topshop

Hi Everyone!

Although most of the time in Winter I want to wear black, I think pastels also work so well. This jumper from Primark is such a gorgeous lilac colour but due to it’s design is still so cosy and warm! I’m normally a gold jewellery kind of girl but I think silver detailing suited this colour so much more and these rings from Primark (they come in one pack) are super pretty and look really good piled on!

Practicality-wise these pumps from Zara are not great for this time of year as my feet were freezing! Haha but fashion-wise they looked so good with the outfit 😉 I love the snakeskin effect and it really complimented the lilac in the jumper.

Do you think pastels work for Winter as well as Spring?

Looking at The Year Ahead

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone,

As you can tell from the title of this post, I really want to talk about my thoughts ahead of the year to come and what I’m most looking forward to! I’ve never really put up such a personal post, so bare with me and I hope you enjoy reading.
Most people start a new year with a big aim to get fit and healthy and most of the time they keep it up for a few months and then it falls by the way side! But I actually really started to think about this last year; in February I will have been going swimming every week for a year which I am so proud of! I only go once a week because I have to travel for 45 minutes to get to the closest swimming pool with a hoist so I can get in! I am getting married in May, so I wanted to lose some weight; I have never believed that you have to be skinny to get married (and I certainly won’t be!) but if I can put my wedding dress on knowing that I’ve done my best to get healthy, then I will be happy!
Losing weight when you’re permanently in a wheelchair is possibly the HARDEST thing! I don’t eat particularly badly, I know what I can and can’t eat, obviously I still treat myself from time to time, but not standing or moving definitely creates a barrier! And this is why I love swimming so much. This year I want to keep this up and go swimming as much as I possibly can, while eating healthily too.
Obviosuly as you can guess, I’m so excited to get married this year!! We have a lot of things sorted, a few bits still to complete but we’re really on top of everything which is a good place to be 5 months before the big day! My dress is ordered, shoes purchased and I can’t wait to decide on my make up look for the day, I’ll do a post all about it after the wedding!
For our honeymoon, we’re going on a cruise to New York and Boston in America and Halifax in Canada and I cannot wait! I have cruised a few times before and I couldn’t recommend anything else if you’re in a wheelchair as they are so accessible and SO much easier than flying and risking wheelchair’s etc being smashed to pieces in the luggage hold! To be honest they’re fantastic holidays for able bodied people too, my family love going on them!
As for the rest of this year, I just want to have fun! I love spending time with my family and friends and I want to do this much more this year. I sometimes lack the energy to make plans and I can get lazy, so I need to make the effort! I also cannot wait to see my blog grow; I love coming up with new posts, taking photographs and talking about things that I love. I really hope you guys like reading it and if you do, please let people know! It means so much to me and of course I want to continue to inspire others as much as possible!
I have so much to look forward to this year, I want to work hard, stay focussed and enjoy myself! Do you have any ‘New Years resolutions’ this year?
Much Love,

Casual in Camel

Hi Everyone,

Well due to the fantastic British weather…. I had to take these photographs inside! I can’t wait for the summer! But having cold and wet weather does mean I could wear this camel jumper and bomber jacket from New Look whilst out shopping! If you saw my previous post; January Sale Haul you’ll see that I picked these pieces up over the last couple of weeks.

The camel jumper has an oversized, baggy fit and I wanted to give it a bit of shape by adding a belt. I like the juxtaposition of mixing this really glamourous belt from Next with the casual jumper. The bomber jacket is obviously a practical piece but that doesn’t mean it’s boring! I love the style and fit of this, it instantly adds an edge to the look and again fits in with the mixing of textures because of it’s fur collar, giving it a softness. I rounded the outfit off by adding my wet look leggings and gold trainers from Zara.
