September Favourites

Hi Everyone!

Here’s what I’ve been loving in the past month, there’s not many new make up additions as I’ve been sticking with a lot of the same products as previous months, but I have found a couple of new things I’ve discovered that I’ve been enjoying.

Make Up Favourites

Primark Love to Glow Moisturiser -£3.00

So I’ll start with skincare and I actually have a review of a couple of the new Primark skincare range coming soon to the blog so I’m not going to talk about it too much, but I’ve recently purchased this Primark Love to Glow moisturiser and it’s so good! For the price it’s incredible and I’ve paid a lot more for moisturisers just like this.

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Fatale – £9.99

I’ve been trying out and loving the combination of two mascaras this month, the first is this one by L’Oreal and it does an amazing job of lengthening and fanning out my lashes, it’s also really black which I like. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing at curling my lashes, but I just use it with an eyelash curler and it makes them look really volumised.

Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – £6.99

The second mascara I have been using is this one from Revlon, I actually have the waterproof black version and it’s honestly one of the best waterproof mascaras I have ever used. I can put this on my bottom lashes in the morning and if I’m out late, it won’t have budged or smeared the whole day. My lower lashes always smudge as they are quite long so this mascara is a God send! I also tend to pair it with the L’Oreal mascara over the top on my top lashes just to give more volume and so it stops all of my mascara budging.

Make Up Revolution Ultra Pro Glow – £10.00

This is a fairly new release by MakeUp Revolution, I had tried quite a lot of their other products including their eyeshadow palettes etc and always liked them, so as a highlight junkie I had to get my hands on this! I’m so surprised on how much I like it, recently I’ve been using Anastasia Beverly Hills and this is such a good dupe! There’s 8 different shades ranging from pink to gold tones and they’re all so buttery and pigmented. For the price, this is so worth buying.

Urban Decay Cream Vice Lipstick – Insanity – £15.00

So it wouldn’t be my favourites if I didn’t have at least two lip products..! And there’s two I’ve been loving in September; the first is a nude shade which is so pretty. It’s more of an orange toned nude which is quite different to what I’d normally go for but it’s so easy to wear, no need for a mirror to apply and I love it for a day to day look. I love the formula of the Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks, they’re not drying at all and this is a cream finish so it’s quite moisturising but long lasting too.

Wet N Wild Mega Last Matte Lipstick – Rose-Bud – £3.99

I found this lipstick whilst I was in America in the summer and I’ve fallen in love with it! The shade rose-bud is perfect for this time of year as it’s a mauve-y toned pink which is great for a beautiful ‘english-rose’ look. I can’t even remember it being called Mega Matte as this may have put me off buying it as I tend to get very dry lips so I avoid most matte lipsticks, but this is absolutely amazing. It’s so comfortable to wear and I’d say it has more of a velvet finish than totally matte, but this suits me much more! I wish Wet N Wild were more easily available in the UK; I have linked one I found on amazon which is brilliant (and potentially dangerous for my bank account) so hopefully you can get your hands on one too.

Random Favourites

I can’t remember how I stumbled onto this youtube video, but I can’t stop watching it! If you ever need something to cheer you up, just watch this it’s so entertaining!

My last favourite is a TV Show called Dexter on Netflix. I watched this a few years ago and loved it so much I have convinced my husband to watch it all over again with me as he’d never seen it before! I have to admit it’s very gory, so if you’re not into that kind thing then I wouldn’t watch it.. but if you enjoy thrillers and comedy combined then I’d definitely give it a go. It’s got a lot of drama and there’s 8 seasons so it’s perfect now for autumn and winter all cuddled up inside in the warm!

What have been your favourites in September?

A Year as FashionBelle

Hi Everyone!

So my blog hit one year old on 23rd September and I can’t believe it, it’s gone so quickly!

When I started my blog, I wanted to inspire both disabled and able bodied people to be who they want to be and to style themselves in anyway they want. I had never let my disability get in the way of my love of fashion and beauty and I wanted to show other disabled people that their disability didn’t need to stop them from standing out in their own unique way.

Honestly a year down the line, when I look back, I thought I’d have more than a thousand instagram followers and hundreds of views on my blog each day; but it doesn’t work like that.. I’ve learnt that I will get nowhere without hard work and determination and that if I continue to do this, then it will pay off eventually!

I enjoy what I do so much, I love writing my blog even though some days after work I just want to chill and do nothing! But my passion is fashion and beauty and I’m so pleased that I have this platform to share it with everyone!

I’ve got so much planned for the future of FashionBelle, but if there are any posts etc that you’d love to see, products you’d like me to review etc, then please let me know in the comments and I would really appreciate it!

Ring The Bell

Hi Everyone,

The bell sleeve trend is everywhere right now and I wasn’t sure how accessible it would be to someone in a wheelchair and if it was even worth it because the effect might be lost as I’m always sitting down. I stumbled across this top on instagram and I knew I had to try it when I found out it was less than £10.00!!

It’s a lovely pleat material, so really comfortable and easy to wear and I love the sleeves so much! I think they still stand out even though I’m sitting down and they’re not too annoying either.

This look is quite minimal for me, but I was just having one of those days where I didn’t want to add to much jewellery-wise and I think the top speaks for itself and I didn’t want to distract away from the beautiful high neckline.

Of course I did add a bit of fun when it came to the jacket and shoes as I can’t be too sensible ;). I felt the camo bomber jacket and trainers gave it an edge and stopped it from being too overly feminine.

Top – H&M sold out online but check in store (alternative here)
Leggings – old Matalan (alternative here)
Trainers – old Next (alternative here)
Jacket – Primark
Sunglasses – Primark

Have you tried the bell sleeve trend? What did you think?

A Weekend in Manchester

Hi Everyone!

I asked on social media if you’d like a long post with all the details of our weekend in Manchester or just a snippet… and you all wanted a long post, so here we go! I have included all of the things we got up to, awesome places to shop and eat and also everything all my fellow disabled people will need to know! All thrown in with tons of photographs which I really enjoyed shooting!

I’d been to Manchester several times before because my sister went to dance college there, but I hadn’t been for ages and I was excited to find new places and be a bit of a tourist this time!

So of course, we started the weekend with a bit of shopping! The Trafford Centre is one of the most unique and exciting places to shop, the building itself is incredible and the range of shops only adds to how awesome it is!

They’ve also just opened a new Stradivarius store which is one of my favourite European shops, they have the most gorgeous clothing which is all reasonably priced, think New Look. I’d recommend going here if you’re in the Trafford Centre!

They also have a Selfridges which we stumbled in to because we spotted the food court (hah) and ended up spending about an hour in the store! They had Primark in there, H&M Home, Kikki K, Muji and the most delicious cakes ever (we were very good though and resisted!)

Everything I wanted to do in the Trafford Centre was accessible and we found it really easy to find lifts when we needed them. One of the main things for me is going to the toilet (skip this section if you don’t want to hear all about it!!) and when I am with my husband, I can only go to the loo using a ceiling or manual hoist. I have discovered in the past year or so the most amazing website called Changing Places. It shows you everywhere in the UK where you can find disabled toilets which are only opened with a Radar Key that have a ceiling hoist and changing bed if needed. It’s literally been a life changer!

Luckily they have them in pretty much every shopping centre in the UK which is perfect for a shopaholic like me! And they have one at the Trafford Centre.

We ate in La Tasca, one of around 40 different places to eat there! So you’ll never be stuck finding something to suit your taste. The food was delicious and the settings where you eat which are all decorated so you feel like you’re in Spain or America or China are an experience in themselves.

As you can see, we didn’t leave until it was dark but it was the perfect choice to spend the day there as it pretty much rained the whole of Saturday (typical Manchester!) and so we headed onto our hotel.

We stayed at the Travelodge Ancoats in the city centre, it was about 20 minute drive from the Trafford Centre. We use Travelodge’s a lot because the beds in the disabled rooms are always hollow underneath which allows access for my manual hoist and we don’t require bed risers etc.

I had contacted the hotel a few days before to request a wet room because they have different levels of accessible rooms. They have some rooms with a bath and some with wet rooms which are better suited if you use a manual hoist because obviously you can shower and there’s more room in the bathroom for hoisting onto the toilet.

When we got there we had a room with a bath which was so frustrating and when we spoke to reception, the hotel was full so there was no way we could change rooms. It meant as per most times in my life, we had to cope! And we did… my husband is a saint and has to put up with so much!

On Sunday we had a walk to Deansgate in the sunshine! Which took about 20 mins and found an adorable cafe for breakfast. It was called Home Sweet Home and when we went in (all flat) we discovered that there were 4 steps to the main eating area. They did have seating on the street level outside and inside the door but they were tall bar tables with stools. The staff were so helpful and informed us that they had ramps that they could put up; I was very sceptical because I’ve had bad experiences in the past, but they were very sturdy and easily took the weight of my wheelchair.

We had a delicious breakfast (if you want to see it then check out the photo on my instagram @fashionbellee) and then headed out ready to be tourists!

My husband told me about the Beetham tower which is the tallest building in Manchester and apparently the highest residential building in Europe! I’d never been to it before and Nathan told me that the views were to die for, so we travelled up 23 floors to Cloud 23 restaurant and politely asked if they would let us have a quick peak at the view! It was incredible, you could see around for miles and it was nice to see a different aspect of Manchester. I love the mix of old and new buildings, it’s such an interesting and unique city.

Right across from the Beetham tower is the Museum of Science and Industry which we visited afterwards. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was free to enter and we found it so interesting, I’d really recommend going there.

There were loads of interactive things to get involved with for small children and big ones like us!! It was in about 5 different building all in the same location and everything was accessible.

Top – old Monki
Bomber – Primark
Leggings – Matalan
Boots – New Look
Bag – old Asos

In true Sophie style, we finished the day by strolling back slowly through the city to find the Primark! And it’s one of the biggest I’ve been too!

We had a lovely time and I’d definitely recommend a visit to Manchester if you’re looking to go on a city break. There is so much more for me to see and I want to go back soon!

I hope you enjoyed reading all about my weekend and seeing all of the photos, thank you so much if you got all the way to the end!! If you have any feedback then I’d really appreciate it.

Urban Decay Moondust Palette Review and Make Up Look

Hi Everyone!

My friend recently went to America and I asked her to pick me up this eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay in Sephora as it hadn’t been released in the UK yet.. it since has, so I wanted to tell you all about it and create a make up look using it, so I can give you an idea of what it looks like on my face!

Firstly, the packaging is beautiful it’s so super sparkly from the outside all the way through to the eyeshadows themselves. The packaging is quite hefty though, so it’s not massively great for travel as it would take up a lot of room in my make up bag!

As you can see there is a whole range of colours and shades, all of which are glittery and not for the faint hearted! The moondust name itself gives you an idea of why the colours have been selected as the majority are cool toned and space-like shades.

L – R: Specter, Element, Magnetic, Lightyear, Granite, Lithium, Vega, Galaxy

When I swatched the eye shadows I was so excited by the pigmentation of them and the colours but I could already feel that some of them were much more buttery than others. They applied really well with my fingers but as soon as I started to use them with a brush on my face, the pigmentation was nowhere near as strong and there was a lot of glittery fall out!

I used the shades Specter as a base, Magnetic as all over colour and Granite in the crease. I found that although they weren’t super pigmented, it was easy to build up the colour and you could create a look you wanted quite easily. I do want to try them wet too because it will help much more if you want very pigmented eye shadow and I think that Urban Decay have created these shadows this way, so you have both options.

Because of the fall out, I did the rest of my foundation etc afterwards and this was fine. There is always going to be some fall out when using glittery eye shadows and it wasn’t extreme.

Overall I love this palette purely because it’s so sassy! It’s perfect for evening looks but you can also use the more warm tone shades like Specter and Element for a daytime look. I would say that the eye shadow looks so much better in person because you can see the full effect more than in still photos, so please bare that in mind and of course I’m no make up artist, so these are purely my opinions on how I’ve found the product to be as an amateur! 😉

You can buy the palette here in the UK!

Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?

Ev’rybody wants to be a Cat

Hi Everyone!

Ok obviously not everybody wants to be a cat… but I just couldn’t get the Aristocats out of my head while I was writing this post!! I fell in love with this cap when I saw it on the website, it’s so quirky and fun and I love wearing something that will start a conversation!

It’s a gorgeous velvet black and is adjustable at the back so it’s really comfy and completely perfect for days when I can’t be bothered to do much with my hair as it sasses up any outfit!

I think I’m getting into Autumn mode because I seem to be wearing a lot more black again lately and this mesh top was a complete bargain, I’ve seen other versions of the same thing in other shops much pricier!

You know how much I love khaki from other posts and these leggings are just a dream. The open knee cut out detail is so cool to add interest to a more casual look.

I added some other statement accessories but equally if you don’t like to wear much jewellery etc you could just wear the cap and let it speak for itself.

Kylie Cosmetics First Impressions and HONEST Review

Hi Everyone!

So about a month ago I made an order from Kylie Cosmetics. I’d never really bothered before because I’m not a huge fan of matte liquid lipsticks but when she released glosses, I knew I wanted to try them. It wasn’t until her birthday collection went live that I decided to see what I could get as it all looked so nice!

Unfortunately all of the eyeshadows and the metallic liquid lipstick from her birthday collection sold out super quickly but I managed to pick up Poppin’ Gloss and two of her original glosses, Posie K and Like. I was happy with my purchases as I thought I had a good range of colours to try out.

They arrived about two and a half weeks later which isn’t too bad considering they’ve come all the way from the US and the packaging is really pretty. They look super sleek, especially the gold on the Poppin’ Gloss and I was so excited to try them!

Delivery – Ok so when you initially order from Kylie Cosmetics you have to pay a delivery charge of $14.95 which is around £11, in my opinion this is ridiculously expensive for the sheer size of the products, does she need to send everything in a one size fits all big square box?

And then the big blow was when they actually got to the UK and I came home to find a card from the Post Office requiring me to pay £15.00 in customs charges… what a joke!! Customs charges is why I very rarely order from the US and this has put me off even more now.

But were the products actually worth the huge delivery costs..?!

In one word… No!

As i said before I picked up the following three colours;

Posie K

The applicator is a small brush which on ‘Like’ some of the bristles were actually bent which made it even harder to apply the product. The glosses themselves are so thick that the brush took too much of the product and I had to wipe a lot of it off around the stem of the tube and it really needs a better bottle to stop wastage of the gloss.

I think they would also really benefit from a doe foot type applicator rather than the brush, in the same way that I’ve seen from youtube etc that the matte liquid lipsticks have?! It would make it much easier to apply and give a more even finish.

The glosses are super pigmented which is good and the range of shades is really nice but because of the difficulty of application, I’d have to say my favourite is Poppin’. It’s a great gloss for a bit of sass on it’s own or paired with another lipstick underneath would work well for a statement lip. It’s also the least sticky out of all three because they all have a very sticky finish and would not do well outside with wind and long hair!

Overall I’m not hugely impressed; with the delivery charges and the glosses themselves, I think Kylie has a long way to go to perfecting her products. Obviously other people may think completely different to me and love them! But these are all my own honest opinions.

Much Love,
