Primark Skincare – Testing and Review

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

Following on from my Poundland Make Up Look review, I thought I’d carry on this budget beauty series with these Primark skincare products. I’ve been trying them for a couple of weeks now, one of them actually featured in my September favourites here, so it might give you a good idea of what I think of them!

The first product I tried was the Love to Glow Moisturiser, I have been using it (mostly) each morning and night and my skin feels so much better for it. This is the worst time of year for our skin because of the cold, windy weather and I really feel like this is an essential you need! It almost has a iridescent shine within it which helps with the ‘glow’ but doesn’t make you look shiny at all.

The other product I’ve been testing is the ‘Instant Radiance Serum’. I wasn’t exactly hoping for much considering it’s low price and Primark obviously don’t specialise in skincare products, but again this has really surprised me. In a way you could use this on it’s own without the moisturiser as a base as this is very moisturing in itself. But I like to use them together as this is still a brilliant primer to use before foundation.

It’s quite a thick consistency but it melts into the skin really quickly. In the same way as the moisturiser, it has a iridescent shine to it but much more obvious. This isn’t a problem for me because as my skin gets quite dry, I like products that give that ‘glowing from within’ look, but if you have oily skin this might be too much.

Overall at only £3.00 each, I’d definitely recommend you trying these out and I can’t wait to try some more Primark skincare products.

Are there any other budget beauty brands you’d like me to test and review? I can do make up looks with budget make up brands or more skincare reviews like this one. Please let me know in the comments!

Poundland Make Up Look – Testing and Review

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

As you all know, I’m a make up addict and I love using lots of different products from drug store to high end. My husband however is an addict to Poundland and I find myself in there quite often…!! And when I realised that they did their own make up line, I wanted to try these out and review them for you guys as they are extremely affordable!

For some reason I completely forgot to buy concealer so I haven’t used any and I couldn’t see any eye brow products in our local store, so apart from that my whole face is purely Poundland!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I used the foundation in the shade Warm Ivory 2 and I’m actually very surprised. I expected it to be low coverage as it was quite watery but after giving it a shake and applying it straight onto my face before blending with a Spectrum foundation brush, it covered my face really well and evenly. It has quite a matt finish, but it didn’t cling anywhere or emphasise any dry spots.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The pressed powder is in the shade Natural Beige 2, I didn’t see a huge amount of difference to my skin after using it but after a couple of hours, it did keep my makeup in place well.

I was slightly nervous about the matte bronzer (they also do a shimmer version which would be really nice in the summer) as it was very orange toned and the shade is Matte Light 1. It actually translated into a lovely bronze shade on the skin, it was pigmented but easy to build up the colour and easy to blend.

Finally the last base product is a highlighter in the shade Pearl Shimmer, it’s a shame as there is only one shade available (from what I could see). I’ve photographed it above in sunlight so you can see that it’s not at all glittery, but has a subtle shimmer which is so pretty. It has a pink/lilac undertone which actually works well as a blusher / highlight and although it’s not at glazed donut levels (!) it’s perfect for a daytime make up look.

I picked up two eyeshadows as they looked amazing in the pan, the white shade is White Frost 1 and the brown shade is Bronze 7. They are both hugely pigmented, I applied the white one with a brush and the bronze one with my finger and they worked both ways. They are quite glittery which doesn’t translate brilliant in the pictures, but is really flattering in person.

There were a couple of mascaras to choose from but I went with the Plump Up The Volume mascara in Carbon Black; on the packet it actually states to ‘ apply generously for plumped up lashes’ and this was definitely true! It took a lot to get my lashes anywhere near coated, though once they were the overall look wasn’t too bad and they did lift and separate my lashes, I definitely wouldn’t say they were volumised though.

Finally, I used the Matt Lip Colour on my lips. It’s really interesting that they have actually brought out Matt lip colours for this price point and I have to say I was very surprised at how much I liked it! It has a metallic sheen to it and it applies and dries down to a velvet finish rather than fully matte, but it lasted well for a couple of hours and I had to re-apply after food and drink. The colour was very pretty, it felt comfortable on my lips and not drying.

The finished look;

I have to say I am very impressed with Poundland make up, so much more than I thought I would be! If you are on a budget and don’t have lots of money to splash out on make up then I would definitely recommend trying some of these items.

The products I liked the most were definitely the highlighter and the eye shadows and I hope that they bring out more shades of the highlight powder in the future!

Have you tried Poundland make up before? What did you think?

BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Face Palette Review

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

I’ve had this palette a while now and I really wanted to share my thoughts because I know how hotly anticipated it was! It’s also a luxury brand, with a luxury price tag so I hope my views can help you decide whether it’s worth the cost.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The most infamous shade in the palette is Champagne Pop, shown above on the bottom row on the left; I had never actually tried this before even though it has such a huge fan base and it didn’t disappoint! It is the most gorgeous high light with a pinky gold undertone which would flatter so many people.

The other highlight in the palette is Prosecco Pop which is much more gold based and is perfect for an evening make up look as it really ‘pops’.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The three blush shades are insanely pigmented and I love the variation in colours within this one palette. The shade Rose Spritz could be used as both a highlight and a blush as it has a really luminous finish which is perfect for a daytime look and for quickness!

Amaretto is more brown toned and to be honest I’d probably use this for contour on my cheek bones rather than on the apples of my cheeks as I’m always much too pale! If you were tanned after a holiday however or have a darker skin tone, then this would be a lovely bronze blush shade.

The final colour in the palette is Pamplemousse which is a beautiful pink which can certainly pack a punch! You have to be so gentle when applying this, use a tiny bit on your brush and build the colour up slowly, else you could end up looking like a clown! (Unless that’s the look you’re going for of course!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

From L – R – Prosecco Pop, Champagne Pop, Pamplemousse, Amaretto, Rose Spritz

All in all, I’d say this palette is worth the money if you love your highlighter as much as me! The formula is amazing, the highlighters and blushers are so buttery and pigmented which means they will last for quite a while.

London Stratford Haul and Hotel Review

Hi Everyone!

So last weekend I had a little trip away to London to visit friends and so we stayed in the Premier Inn at Westfield Shopping Centre. I bought some amazing clothes whilst I was there. I’ve also completed a review of the hotel as it wasn’t the best stay I’ve ever had!

Hotel Review

I’ve never stayed in the Premier Inn here before and I had heard that they had a room with a ceiling hoist. I called them about a week before to ask if they had and if they could reserve it for me; they told me that I could request it but that it wouldn’t be guaranteed and I should bring my manual hoist anyway. This seemed so silly to have to bring my manual hoist ‘just in case’, why couldn’t they just book the room out for me?!

Anyway, we arrived on the Saturday to find that we had been allocated the disabled room with the hoist; when we got to the room we discovered that the ceiling hoist wasn’t actually attached, the tracking was in the completely wrong place for positioning on the bed and it never went over the toilet.

The hoist literally went over the end of the bed, which is in the complete wrong place! How would I sleep at night on the bottom of the bed…?

As you can see here, the toilet wasn’t anywhere near the hoist and to use the toilet from the hoist, I would’ve had to had used the chair on wheels which was actually dirty from previous users.. Really not something I wanted to use!! Luckily I still brought my manual hoist as they advised and thank goodness I did as it made my stay so much easier.

When you’re in a wheelchair going away is hard enough and you hear there is a ceiling hoist in a hotel you expect it to be suitable, to make a disabled persons life easier! Overall the hotel room was poorly laid out and in some aspects very un-hygienic which is so surprising as I’ve had many amazing stays in Premier Inn’s around the UK. When they plan out disabled rooms, people with severe disabilities need to get involved and help in the planning process because no matter how sympathetic someone might be, they will never know the in’s and out’s of what is really needed for a disabled person.

Have you ever stayed in this hotel before? Did you have any difficulties if you are in a wheelchair?

Much Love,
