Clothes Show 2016

Hi Everyone,

Last weekend I went to the final Clothes Show to be held at Birmingham NEC since 1989! It’s moving to Liverpool in the summer next year for the foreseeable future, so I wanted to give you the low down on what I saw, what was there and most importantly, what I bought!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The fashion show this year wasn’t as good as previous years I felt, there wasn’t much in the way of a theme which tied all of the fashion pieces together and they didn’t have as much well known music. They did however have a saxophone player who was amazing and it gave a really unusual twist to the fashion show.

There were a huge amount of stands there from accessories, beauty, clothing and homeware including brands like Spectrum Brushes, Barry M, Models Own, Elemis, In The Style and Oasis, with a lot of them having exclusive deals just for the Clothes Show.

I managed to pick up the most beautiful make up brush from Spectrum which isn’t going to be released until January 2017 but was on special offer at the show.

Also this make up bag from Barry M which included loads of their products for only £10 which is incredible! Also helps that the makeup bag itself is super instagram friendly..!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also picked up this cute jumper for the crazy¬†price of¬†¬£5! I mean, it’s not exactly the softest of knits and it won’t be incredible quality but such a bargain.

There were a few celebrities there including a couple of my favourite bloggers/youtubers Sarah Ashcroft and Lydia Millen who did a panel as well as fashion stylist Mark Heyes and Jo Elvin who is the editor of Glamour magazine.

What I wore;
Top – New Look
Jacket – Stradivarius (sold out alternative here)
Leggings – Old Matalan
Boots – Primark
Bag – New Look (sold out alternatives here and here)

Also, just a side-note for all of you fellow people in wheelchairs; the NEC also has a brand new Changing Places toilet.. which is the best news! So if you’re ever going to an event there, we found it near Hall 20.

Wedding Series – The Dress

wedding-sn-314-copyimg_8841-copy

Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe it but this is the last in my Wedding Wednesday series and I thought it should end on a good one.. my dress!

Ever since I was a child I always wanted the dream princess wedding dress like in the Disney films, never giving much thought to the fact I would be in a wheelchair on my wedding day! So when my husband proposed, I got lots of anxiety about finding my dress and rather than looking forward to the search I was actually dreading it.

I began looking online to see some of the options out there and decided that I should probably go for a tea length dress as a full length dress would drown me and I wouldn’t be able to have a train etc anyway. I knew that I wanted to visit a particular wedding shop in Wellingborough and luckily they stocked the brand of dress I wanted to try which was Lou Lou Brides.img_8843-copyimg_8895-copywedding-sn-012-copy

I tried on about 6 different dresses before I found ‘the one’. I initially wanted¬†a dress with a high waistband as I thought it would suit me better sitting down and I knew I definitely wanted a dress with sleeves. Lou Lou specialises in tea length dresses which you can have in around 3 different lengths, it actually turns out that their shortest length fitted me perfectly and looked like I was wearing a full length dress!

The trying on of the dresses was the most tricky part as you can imagine, with each dress having about 30 layers of tulle and netting! But with helpful bridesmaids and my mum, we got it down to a fine art!

The dress I chose was in a vintage style with elbow length sleeves, lace detailing, lots of tulle and a big bow on the waist band. It ended up having a lower waistband that I thought I would want too, so it just shows that what you think you want might not be what you should get!

Once I had decided on the dress, obviously it had to be ordered in and then the alteration process began. The seamstress I had was so helpful, she had some brilliant ideas on how to make it work the best for me. She ended up altering the dress to a ‘sit down’ dress which involved moving up the waist band slightly at the back and rather than a zip fastening as originally made, she altered the back¬†into a corset. She also took away lots of the layers of tulle at the back of the dress so it was more comfortable to sit down in all day.

img_8842-copy

Obviously as I’m in a wheelchair I wasn’t sure about wearing a long veil because it would be too much and I really wanted a birdcage veil as I loved the effect of it and it matched the style of my dress. But I did want to jazz up my wheelchair a bit and with the help of my parents spray painting and decorating it and adding a veil onto the back which I kept on all day, it looked really amazing!!

wedding-sn-324-copywedding-sn-025-copy

One of the most important factors of any girls wedding day, other than the dress of course, is the shoes! I’ve documented many times on this blog how much I struggle to find shoes that will fit my wide feet but completely and utterly by chance, I happened to be in New Look near the kids section when my mum spotted the most incredible glittery shoes. And by some miracle they actually fit me! And were only¬†¬£7!!wedding-sn-008-copy

I found some bows on ebay in the same glitter to add onto the front so I could cover up more of my feet and I absolutely loved them! They were so comfortable and I had so many compliments on them as they just peeked out the bottom of my dress.

wedding-sn-294-copy

As much as I was dreading going wedding dress shopping; in the end it was so much fun, I found the dress of my dreams and I honestly didn’t want to take it off! So if you’re in a similar situation to me, then just enjoy it and embrace every minute because it’s all over so quickly.

I wish I could live it all again and to be honest writing these posts has brought it all back to life, so I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them!

My Dress was from Lou Lou – The Cynthia Dress
I purchased it from Brides of Wellingborough
Birdcage Veil – Once In a Lifetime, Milton Keynes
Shoes – New Look Kids
Wheelchair Veil – Ebay (similar here)

B & M Autumn / Winter Candle Haul

Hi Everyone,

So if you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I am completely obsessed with candles. I’d heard about the infamous B&M ‘Bath and Bodyworks’ candle dupes and I was desperate to get my hands on them. Unfortunately I can’t find any online to link for you but I went into store and they had a huge selection there.

I bought a whole range of candles with Autumn scents to Winter ones and they all smell soooo good! Also can we just talk about the packaging… I almost don’t want to burn them because they look so pretty! They were only¬†¬£2.99 each for two wick candles so you literally can’t go wrong.

Now, we all know that describing scents is the hardest thing ever, so I’ll show you my haul below and then I’d definitely recommend you go and check them out in your local store.

Autumn Drugstore Makeup Haul

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone,

I popped into town the other day and spotted that Superdrug had 3 for 2 on all of their makeup… Dangerous! So I got a little spendy and I thought I’d show you what I got from there and Boots!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

L’Oreal L’OR Highlighter –¬†¬£4.99

I’d heard Alix from I Covet Thee on youtube rave about this and I really wanted to try it for myself. I expected it to be much more expensive but I was pleasantly surprised. I haven’t used it on my face yet, but from swatching it, it has an almost velvet texture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Barry M Matte Lipstick – 179 –¬†¬£4.99

This is one of the new matte lipsticks from Barry M and I just fell in love with the colour!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

MUA Luxe Eyeshadow Palette – Enchanted –¬†¬£6.00

I can’t get over how pretty this palette is and I’m so excited to try it. It really reminds me of the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette but around¬†¬£50 cheaper! I’m not sure on the quality of the eyeshadows but I’ll keep you updated once I’ve tested it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Garnier Moisture Bomb Face Mask – 99p

I actually tried this mask the night that I got it and after trying other sheet masks, it is one of my favourites. The product didn’t drip off and go everywhere like others do and it clung to my face so it felt like it was really working. My skin didn’t feel very soft afterwards but it looked very moisturised and brighter. For the price (it’s usual price is¬†¬£1.49) it’s worth a try if you have dry skin like me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush – Gorgeous Berries –¬†¬£8.99

I haven’t had a berry blush shade before and this just looked so pretty! I’m all about the autumn make up at the moment and this fits in perfectly.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

MUA Luxe Glow Beam Liquid Highlight Cushion –¬†¬£5.00

This is another new release from MUA and it’s a cushion highlight which I’ve never tried before. I have swatched it and it’s quite subtle, but I think it will work well layered under a powder highlight to ensure that it doesn’t budge all day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

NYX Matte Lipsticks – Eurotrash and Tea Rose –¬†¬£6.50 each

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Makeup Obsession Build Your Own Palette – Palette –¬†¬£6.00 and each pan –¬†¬£3.00 each

  • Top Row from Right to Left – Contour Powder C102 Light, Contour Powder C101 Fair, Highlight H103 Bronze
  • Bottom Row from Right to Left – Banana Powder C111, Blush B112 Bloom, Highlight H104 Moon

So Boots now have something called a Makeup Emporium in some of their stores and they have one in Northampton. You can test lots of different makeup they have selected and you can build your own face or eyeshadow palettes. I really wanted to build a face palette so I can take it with me when I travel. They have everything you need from contour powders, blush and the most incredibly pigmented highlighters!

Have you been buying any of the new Autumn make up releases?

Much Love,

AW16 Trend Series ‚Äď Grunge Spirit

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

This is the second part of my AW16 trend series and this time I’m talking you through ‘Grunge Spirit’. I had so much fun styling this look; I think it’s partly due to me reverting back to my emo days ūüėČ

This trend incorporates everything 90’s, chokers, tartan, leopard print, brooches and layering. I wanted to give a girly edge to my look but you could also style it with ripped jeans, a rock band tee and leather jacket. I have linked some other alternatives below. My inspiration off the catwalk for this trend was from Burberry, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and Prada.
