Ring The Bell

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone,

The bell sleeve trend is everywhere right now and I wasn’t sure how accessible it would be to someone in a wheelchair and if it was even worth it because the effect might be lost as I’m always sitting down. I stumbled across this top on instagram and I knew I had to try it when I found out it was less than £10.00!!

It’s a lovely pleat material, so really comfortable and easy to wear and I love the sleeves so much! I think they still stand out even though I’m sitting down and they’re not too annoying either.

This look is quite minimal for me, but I was just having one of those days where I didn’t want to add to much jewellery-wise and I think the top speaks for itself and I didn’t want to distract away from the beautiful high neckline.

Of course I did add a bit of fun when it came to the jacket and shoes as I can’t be too sensible ;). I felt the camo bomber jacket and trainers gave it an edge and stopped it from being too overly feminine.

A Weekend in Manchester

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

I asked on social media if you’d like a long post with all the details of our weekend in Manchester or just a snippet… and you all wanted a long post, so here we go! I have included all of the things we got up to, awesome places to shop and eat and also everything all my fellow disabled people will need to know! All thrown in with tons of photographs which I really enjoyed shooting!

I’d been to Manchester several times before because my sister went to dance college there, but I hadn’t been for ages and I was excited to find new places and be a bit of a tourist this time!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So of course, we started the weekend with a bit of shopping! The Trafford Centre is one of the most unique and exciting places to shop, the building itself is incredible and the range of shops only adds to how awesome it is!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They’ve also just opened a new Stradivarius store which is one of my favourite European shops, they have the most gorgeous clothing which is all reasonably priced, think New Look. I’d recommend going here if you’re in the Trafford Centre!

They also have a Selfridges which we stumbled in to because we spotted the food court (hah) and ended up spending about an hour in the store! They had Primark in there, H&M Home, Kikki K, Muji and the most delicious cakes ever (we were very good though and resisted!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Everything I wanted to do in the Trafford Centre was accessible and we found it really easy to find lifts when we needed them. One of the main things for me is going to the toilet (skip this section if you don’t want to hear all about it!!) and when I am with my husband, I can only go to the loo using a ceiling or manual hoist. I have discovered in the past year or so the most amazing website called Changing Places. It shows you everywhere in the UK where you can find disabled toilets which are only opened with a Radar Key that have a ceiling hoist and changing bed if needed. It’s literally been a life changer!

Luckily they have them in pretty much every shopping centre in the UK which is perfect for a shopaholic like me! And they have one at the Trafford Centre.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We ate in La Tasca, one of around 40 different places to eat there! So you’ll never be stuck finding something to suit your taste. The food was delicious and the settings where you eat which are all decorated so you feel like you’re in Spain or America or China are an experience in themselves.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As you can see, we didn’t leave until it was dark but it was the perfect choice to spend the day there as it pretty much rained the whole of Saturday (typical Manchester!) and so we headed onto our hotel.

We stayed at the Travelodge Ancoats in the city centre, it was about 20 minute drive from the Trafford Centre. We use Travelodge’s a lot because the beds in the disabled rooms are always hollow underneath which allows access for my manual hoist and we don’t require bed risers etc.

I had contacted the hotel a few days before to request a wet room because they have different levels of accessible rooms. They have some rooms with a bath and some with wet rooms which are better suited if you use a manual hoist because obviously you can shower and there’s more room in the bathroom for hoisting onto the toilet.

When we got there we had a room with a bath which was so frustrating and when we spoke to reception, the hotel was full so there was no way we could change rooms. It meant as per most times in my life, we had to cope! And we did… my husband is a saint and has to put up with so much!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On Sunday we had a walk to Deansgate in the sunshine! Which took about 20 mins and found an adorable cafe for breakfast. It was called Home Sweet Home and when we went in (all flat) we discovered that there were 4 steps to the main eating area. They did have seating on the street level outside and inside the door but they were tall bar tables with stools. The staff were so helpful and informed us that they had ramps that they could put up; I was very sceptical because I’ve had bad experiences in the past, but they were very sturdy and easily took the weight of my wheelchair.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We had a delicious breakfast (if you want to see it then check out the photo on my instagram @fashionbellee) and then headed out ready to be tourists!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My husband told me about the Beetham tower which is the tallest building in Manchester and apparently the highest residential building in Europe! I’d never been to it before and Nathan told me that the views were to die for, so we travelled up 23 floors to Cloud 23 restaurant and politely asked if they would let us have a quick peak at the view! It was incredible, you could see around for miles and it was nice to see a different aspect of Manchester. I love the mix of old and new buildings, it’s such an interesting and unique city.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Right across from the Beetham tower is the Museum of Science and Industry which we visited afterwards. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was free to enter and we found it so interesting, I’d really recommend going there.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There were loads of interactive things to get involved with for small children and big ones like us!! It was in about 5 different building all in the same location and everything was accessible.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Top – old Monki
Bomber – Primark
Leggings – Matalan
Boots – New Look
Bag – old Asos

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In true Sophie style, we finished the day by strolling back slowly through the city to find the Primark! And it’s one of the biggest I’ve been too!

We had a lovely time and I’d definitely recommend a visit to Manchester if you’re looking to go on a city break. There is so much more for me to see and I want to go back soon!

I hope you enjoyed reading all about my weekend and seeing all of the photos, thank you so much if you got all the way to the end!! If you have any feedback then I’d really appreciate it.

Much Love,

Ev’rybody wants to be a Cat

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

Ok obviously not everybody wants to be a cat… but I just couldn’t get the Aristocats out of my head while I was writing this post!! I fell in love with this cap when I saw it on the website, it’s so quirky and fun and I love wearing something that will start a conversation!

It’s a gorgeous velvet black and is adjustable at the back so it’s really comfy and completely perfect for days when I can’t be bothered to do much with my hair as it sasses up any outfit!

I think I’m getting into Autumn mode because I seem to be wearing a lot more black again lately and this mesh top was a complete bargain, I’ve seen other versions of the same thing in other shops much pricier!

You know how much I love khaki from other posts and these leggings are just a dream. The open knee cut out detail is so cool to add interest to a more casual look.

I added some other statement accessories but equally if you don’t like to wear much jewellery etc you could just wear the cap and let it speak for itself.

My Top High Street / Drugstore Makeup Picks

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi Everyone!

I  get asked quite a bit about what make up I’m wearing in instagram posts etc. (follow me here if you’re not already!!) and I do tend to wear a lot of high end makeup but some of my staple everyday products are all high street which are obviously much cheaper and easier to get a hold of, so I thought I’d give you a run down of all my favourite high street and drugstore picks!

Primer- Next – Face Illuminator

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love to have an illuminator under my foundation as I suffer with dry skin and this one gives a gorgeous ‘glow from within’ effect.

Foundation – L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt Foundation – Light – £8.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Although there are only two shades of this foundation, this colour is actually a perfect match for me which is lucky! I really like the consistency of this, it’s got a good coverage without being too heavy and it actually lasts for a long time on my nose whereas other foundations come off so easily!

Concealer – Bourjois Radiance Reveal – 01 Ivory – £7.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This shade is brilliant for brightening underneath my eyes, it’s very easy to blend and it isn’t matte which I prefer.

Powder – Revlon Photoready Powder – 010 Fair/Light – £11.29

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I don’t use a lot of powder during the summer months because I embrace the ‘glow’ but when I do I always use this one; it’s really light and doesn’t feel like it’s clogging up my face but gives a flawless effect.

Contour – Makeup Revolution Iconic Lights & Contour Palette -£8.00

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If there is one drug store product I’d recommend it would be this contour palette from Makeup Revolution, as you can probably tell due to the state of it..!! I blend all 4 of the contour shades together and use sparingly because they’re very pigmented! It’s also a great palette for travel because it has under eye powders and two high light powders which are so pretty too.

Blusher – H&M – Sunrise Pink – £6.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

H&M have some amazing make up but one of the stand out products is their blusher, it blends well and they have a huge amount of shades to suit every skin tone.

Highlighter – Sleek – Solstice – £9.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Highlighter has to be one of my favourite make up products to buy and use! I usually use high end high lighters much more than high street but after re-discovering this, I have to say that it’s incredible! I use the powder shades much more often than the one creamy shade and I love them.

Eyebrows – Maybelline Masterbrow Pro Palette – Deep Brown – £6.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have this eye brow palette in my make up bag constantly and it’s brilliant for the price. I don’t use the brush that comes with it as it’s too tiny!

Eyeshadow – Makeup Revolution – Fortune Favours the Brave – £9.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have reviewed this eyeshadow palette on my blog before and the range of shades, pigmentation and blend ability of the eye shadows makes this an easy recommendation!

Eyeliner – Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl – Super Black – £5.00

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I get very watery eyes and this water proof eye liner stays on no matter what!

Mascara – Maybelline Lash Sensational -£7.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is my go to drug store mascara, it is really black and makes my lashes look beautifully fanned out and dramatic.

Lip Liner – New Look Pure Colour – £1.99

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just cannot get over how cheap this lip liner is! It glides on so easily and stays put for a long time, it’s incredible for the price.

Lipstick – Topshop -£8.00

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have so many lipsticks from Topshop and I love them all too much I couldn’t pick a favourite! They range from matte to satin and even the matte lipsticks are creamy and comfortable to wear.

Setting Spray – Avon – £6.00

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love this setting spray so much; not only does it keep my make up in place but it also refreshes my skin and keeps my make up looking just as good as it did when I first put it on!

Which drugstore or high street products would you recommend to me? Let me know if this post inspires you to try any of these!

Much Love,
